Jim Vanney

Coach Vanney graduated from Grand Canyon University with a B.S. in Physical Education. He also has a Masters Degree in Education from Northern Arizona University. This was his eighteenth year of coaching high school soccer. He was an assistant coach at Marcos de Niza when they won the state championship three straight years (90, 91, & 92).
He was also an assistant boys coach at Gilbert High School and head varsity girls coach at Chandler High School. From Chandler High, he moved to start the new Basha High School Boys soccer program. He was the head coach for 5 years, and took them to the state high school tournament 3 out of the first 4 years of the varsity program. They finished his last year with a win over #1 ranked Brophy Prep and getting to the state semifinals. Currently, Jim is the head boys’ soccer coach at Perry High School and has been there the last 3 years. The program has just finished their second varsity season and both years they have made it to the high school state tournament finishing in the quarterfinals.
On May 8, 2010, Jim will be coaching the 1990 State Champion Marcos de Niza High School Team who will be playing Brophy High School. The 1990 game ended in a tie, so this time they will be playing to “Settle the Score.” In 1996, Jim help create was AZFC, which has since merged with Sereno South. The last couple of years, he coached ’93 Boys, ’94 Boys, and ’99 Boys. Jim and his wife Donna have three daughters Eryn, Tori, and Myli.
